Happy Birthday Catonsville!!

The year 2010 marks the bicentennial of Catonsville's establishment. On April 23, 1810, Samuel Turner a surveyor,

filed with the courts the petition to divide the "Old Baltimore Company", an original land grant from the King of England

in the mid 1600's. Charles Carroll of Carrollton, signer of the Declaration of Independence, had inherited shares in the

"Old Baltimore Company" from his father. In 1810, he received a number a land plots along Frederick Road in place of

his shares. He immediately gave the control of these plots to his son-in law, Richard Caton. Richard call this land

"Catonville". The "s" was added to our name in the early 1900's by the Post Office.

Fusting was one of Catonsville's major 19th century businessmen and was the local agent of the horsecar line. He resided in Homewood until 1864.
