On April 23, 1810, Samuel Turner a surveyor, file the break up of the "Old Baltimore Company". This was a company founded from a land grant from the King of England in the mid 1600's. Charles Carroll of Carrollton, signer of the Declaration of Independence, had inherited his shares of this company from his father. Charles immediately turned over the management of the land plots he received to his son-in-law, Richard Caton. This land plots were along Frederick Road. Richard Caton immediately called these lands Catonville. The "s" was added to the name in the early 1900's by the Post Office. Upcoming activities for Catonsville's Bicentennial:
Sunday, January 24, 2010 an Interfaith Service of Thanksgiving will be held at 4:00pm at the Catonsville Presbyterian Church.
Tuesday, February 2, 2010 "Catonsville Catey" will predict the bicentennial winter forecast at the Catonsville Historical Society, 1824 Frederick Road, at 12 noon.
Saturday, February 6, 2010 "Cantastic" -a Girl Scout Gold Award project, at the Catonsville Unioted Methodist Church Hall at 10:00 am. Non-perishable foods are used to construct buildings of Catonsville past and present.
All of the above events are open to the public and free of charge.
